LIFE IN SHAKESPEARE’S TIME – History – 12/11/15

LIFE IN SHAKESPEARE’S TIME – HISTORY – today in history we learnt about William Shakespeare .   He was born in Stratford Upon Avon. Life in Shakespeare’s time was tough, because half the population of children did not survive anymore than 15 years of age,and some did not make it to their christening. Adults did not have a long life span either, Most adults life span was only 30 years.  The reason for this was because there was little medical knowlege and no antibiotics or antiseptics to treat illness or disease.  Another reason for this is because there was a plague or disease called the Bubonic plague ( Black death ) which killed A LOT of  people.

Poor people did not get an education or go to school some could read or write however,Rich people went to school and got a  good education like Shakespeare.

The main industry was wool,Lots of people had jobs from raising sheep, shearing them, making wool and making clothes and making material from the wool.

London was a violent place to live in because there were so many fights, riots and protests in the streets.

Women didn’t have many rights compared to men.  They were expected look after the children and husbands. The men were the head of the house and rule over the wife and children and the women weren’t able to go against the husband or speak out their opinion in public.

I would HATE to live in England at that time because life seemed tough and I might not of even lived for a long period of time or I would of not been able to write this blog because I could not read or write. see ya this post was by Roan, bye!!!

  1. Wow. Excellent research and blog post Roan! You are right, life was pretty tough back in those times but Shakespeare was luck as he was rather better of than most. Well done!
